Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release former President Ram Nath Kovind’s autobiography, Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles, at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Tuesday.
The book will be released at 9.30 a.m. at Vigyan Bhavan, where the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.
According to the PMO, the autobiography presents a personal account of Kovind’s journey from his early life and struggles to his distinguished public career and tenure as the 14th President of India.
The book also sheds light on the values, experiences and circumstances that shaped Kovind’s life and approach to public service.
Kovind was born on October 1, 1945, in Paraunkh village of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district. He joined the BJP in 1991 and subsequently served as president of the BJP Dalit Morcha from 1998 to 2002. He also served as president of the All-India Koli Samaj.
Kovind unsuccessfully contested the Ghatampur Assembly constituency after joining the BJP and later lost the 2007 Assembly election from Bhognipur as a BJP candidate.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in April 1994 and served two consecutive terms, completing 12 years in the Upper House until March 2006.
Before becoming President, Kovind served as Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. He was elected President of India in 2017 and held the office until 2022.
He was the first person from Uttar Pradesh and the first BJP leader to occupy the country’s highest constitutional post.
The PMO said the release of the autobiography would mark an occasion to reflect on Kovind’s life, contributions and public service.
