Veteran Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat has dismissed reports of an accommodation delay after her arrival in Japan for the 2026 Asian Games, saying a misunderstanding with the organisers was quickly resolved and she received her room on time.
Sarnobat, part of India’s 35-member shooting squad for the Aichi-Nagoya Games, said she faced no difficulty with her accommodation.
“Actually, there was no issue at all. There was some confusion with the organisers, but I got my room well on time. I am perfectly all right,” Sarnobat told IANS.
Reports had earlier suggested that the shooter had faced difficulties in securing a room and had to change hotels before getting accommodation.
The 35-year-old brings significant Asian Games experience to the Indian shooting contingent. She won gold in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2018 Asian Games and also claimed a team bronze at the 2014 Incheon edition.
India’s shooting campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will begin on Sunday. The Indian shooting team enjoyed a highly successful campaign at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, winning 22 medals — seven gold, nine silver and six bronze.
The contingent will be looking to build on that performance in Japan as Indian shooters begin their campaign across various events.
Meanwhile, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and kabaddi star Pawan Sehrawat will lead the Indian contingent as flag-bearers at the Asian Games opening ceremony in Nagoya on Saturday.
For Bhaker, the honour marks a significant moment in her journey. The 24-year-old is competing at her third Asian Games, having made her debut at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.
