Newly appointed Chairman of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), IAS Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, on Friday visited the PSPCL headquarters in Patiala and held his first meeting with directors and senior officials of both power corporations.
Director Distribution Eng. Inderpal Singh, Director Generation Eng. Punardeep Singh Brar, Director Commercial Eng. Harsharan Kaur Trehan, Director Finance, PSTCL, CA Vinod Bansal, and heads of various PSPCL departments were present at the meeting.
The Chairman reviewed the functioning of PSPCL and PSTCL and sought detailed information on electricity demand and supply in Punjab, power generation and purchase, the performance of existing thermal power plants, coal availability, transmission and supply arrangements, and electricity billing.
Singh directed officials to ensure uninterrupted and reliable electricity supply to domestic and commercial consumers across the state. He also stressed the importance of providing farmers eight hours of uninterrupted agricultural power supply according to the prescribed schedule.
He instructed officials to strengthen and streamline generation, transmission and distribution arrangements in view of the state’s power demand. He also ordered continuous monitoring of thermal power plant performance, coal availability and the power purchase position.
The Chairman further called for immediate resolution of issues affecting domestic, agricultural and commercial consumers and more effective field-level monitoring. He asked officials to ensure prompt redressal of consumer complaints and work continuously to improve the quality of power services.
Interacting with print and electronic media representatives, Singh said their suggestions would be welcomed and that they could meet him at his office. He also highlighted the role of social media in providing consumers with timely and accurate information, encouraging them to follow PSPCL’s official Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube accounts for updates on new initiatives and government policies.
Concluding the meeting, Singh directed PSPCL and PSTCL officials to maintain close coordination and take further steps to improve power management and consumer services.
