Patiala, September 18, 2026 (Manmohan Singh)
A notable father-son moment unfolded at the headquarters of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Patiala when newly appointed Chairman-cum-Managing Director IAS Gurkirat Kirpal Singh was seen with his father, Er. Kirpal Singh, a former Member (Operations) of the erstwhile Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB).
Er. Kirpal Singh served as Member (Operations) of PSEB in 2001. During his tenure, several initiatives were undertaken to provide special facilities to rural electricity consumers and strengthen schemes aimed at ensuring round-the-clock power supply across Punjab.
Gurkirat Kirpal Singh’s appointment to head PSPCL marks his entry into the senior leadership of the state’s power sector, while his father’s earlier association with PSEB dates back to the period when the electricity board was responsible for power generation, transmission and distribution in Punjab.
The presence of the two generations at the PSPCL headquarters underlined the family’s longstanding association with Punjab’s public power sector.
The occasion also highlighted the institutional continuity between the erstwhile PSEB and PSPCL, which was formed following the restructuring of the state electricity board.
