A couple and their three children were found dead under suspicious circumstances at their home in Nagla Shri Padam village in Greater Noida on Saturday, prompting a police investigation into the cause of the deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their children Laddu, 11, Mishti, 7, and Sakshat, 3. The family lived in the Rabupura police station area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
According to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Media Cell, police received information about the deaths on Saturday morning after a crowd gathered outside the family’s home.
Senior police officers, local personnel, an ambulance and a Food Safety Department team reached the spot. Forensic experts and a field unit examined the scene and began collecting scientific evidence.
Preliminary information indicates that the family may have eaten noodles the previous night. Police are examining the possibility of food poisoning based on accounts from neighbours and Mahesh’s mother. However, officials have not established the cause of death, and the suspected link to the food remains unconfirmed.
The bodies are being sent for post-mortem examinations. Police said further legal action would depend on the autopsy findings and the outcome of other scientific investigations.
The incident comes amid other reported cases involving suspected food-related illness. In January 2026, Delhi Police registered a case against a five-star hotel on Barakhamba Road after a 33-year-old woman alleged that food served there had made her ill. The case was registered under Section 286 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, concerning negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substances.
In September 2025, around 200 people reportedly fell ill in northwest Delhi after allegedly consuming buckwheat flour during Navratri fasting.
