Chennai, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

DMK leader M.K. Stalin has targeted the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after the arrest of its Nagapattinam district functionary Boobalan in a drug trafficking case involving the seizure of 135 kg of methamphetamine, allegedly worth ₹270 crore and suspected to have been destined for smuggling to Sri Lanka.

In a post on X, Stalin referred to the television crime series Breaking Bad to take a swipe at TVK and questioned Chief Minister Vijay’s statements against narcotics. He called for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the source of the seized drugs, their intended recipients and others allegedly linked to the trafficking network.

Stalin identified Boobalan as a member of the TVK’s Nagapattinam district executive committee who had served as the party’s in-charge for the Kilvelur Assembly constituency during the 2026 Assembly elections. He questioned how a functionary facing allegations in a major narcotics case had been entrusted with organisational responsibilities in the ruling party.

The DMK leader also criticised the government’s priorities during its first five months in office and urged Vijay to address the case seriously. Using references to characters associated with Vijay’s films, Stalin called on the ruling party to examine its district-level organisations.

DRI searches multiple locations

The case came to light after a five-member Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team searched Boobalan’s residence in Chinthamani, Keezhapidagai village, Nagapattinam district, from 7 a.m. on Friday.

Boobalan, a 42-year-old advocate, was questioned over suspected methamphetamine trafficking. DRI officials also searched the residences of his friends in Prathabaramapuram.

During the operation, officials seized 135 kg of methamphetamine from the house of J. Sugan. Sugan, 27, his brother J. Parthiban, 29, and D. Sathish, 30, were detained for questioning.

Boobalan was arrested in connection with the case, and the suspects were taken to the Nagapattinam Customs office for further questioning about the consignment and its alleged movement.

Following Boobalan’s arrest, TVK district secretary M. Sugumaran issued a statement announcing his removal from all party responsibilities and positions.

The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances of the seizure and the alleged involvement of those connected to the case. The precise role of each suspect remains subject to investigation.
