New Delhi, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Police has registered multiple FIRs over alleged violations of prohibitory orders in Connaught Place and other parts of New Delhi during Friday’s protests, warning that repeat offenders will face action.

According to police sources, the cases concern violations of restrictions imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said announcements were made asking people to disperse, but crowds gathered around Connaught Place despite the orders.

The action followed a Tiranga rally held by protesters outside Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday amid heightened security in the national Capital.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was arrested in connection with the party’s “Lehra Do Tiranga” rally and was scheduled to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate court on Saturday.

CJP head of legal affairs Ratna Singh said in a post on X that Dipke had been arrested, but his location was not known to the party and his lawyers had not been able to meet him.

All India Students’ Association (AISA) leader Neha Bora was also detained near Mandi House as security was tightened across central Delhi. She was subsequently released, according to reports.

The developments came amid tensions following the arrest of CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to five days of judicial custody after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar and unfurling the National Flag on October 13. The action came a day after the site was de-notified as a designated protest venue.

Dipke had also been detained earlier in the week after arriving in Delhi from Mumbai to join a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral-roll manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Before Friday’s rally, police had served Dipke a notice stating that Connaught Place was not a designated protest site and that the New Delhi Municipal Council had not granted permission for the proposed march. The notice warned that organising the procession or assembling a crowd would violate the restrictions in force.

Police maintained that displaying or waving the National Flag was not prohibited, but said an unauthorised procession or gathering in breach of prohibitory orders could invite legal action. Dipke had questioned the grounds for his detention and asked which law he had violated.
