The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh, will celebrate its 179th Founder’s Day with a three-day programme from October 3 to 5, bringing together students, faculty, parents, alumni and members of the Old Sanawarian community from India and abroad.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan will be the chief guest at the 179th Founder’s Trooping of the School Flag Ceremony on October 5.
Admiral Swaminathan assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff on May 31.
The celebrations will mark another milestone in the history of the residential educational institution, which was founded on April 15, 1847, by Sir Henry Lawrence and Lady Honoria Lawrence.
The school began with 14 boys and girls living under canvas in the Kasauli hills before its first buildings were completed. Over nearly 18 decades, it has developed into a co-educational residential institution while retaining its traditions and emphasis on community life.
Located in the hills of Solan district, Sanawar combines academics with sports, outdoor activities, cultural pursuits and residential community living. Its educational ethos places emphasis on character, leadership, discipline and participation beyond the classroom.
Founder’s Day is one of the school’s major annual occasions, bringing together current students and faculty with parents, alumni and the wider Old Sanawarian community.
The three-day programme will feature sporting events, cultural activities, exhibitions, special assemblies and traditional ceremonies.
The concluding day on October 5 will begin with the Founder’s Day Special Assembly, followed by the 179th Founder’s Trooping of the School Flag Ceremony.
The programme will also include the Headmaster’s School Report, presentation of the Founder’s Prizes, an address by Admiral Swaminathan and the 179th Founder’s Exhibitions.
