Actor Ravie Dubey has said that the opportunity to portray Lord Lakshman in the upcoming cinematic epic Ramayana still feels unreal, even nearly two-and-a-half years after completing the film’s shoot. The actor credited divine grace for helping him land the prestigious role, saying he and his wife, actress Sargun Mehta, believe that significant things in life happen through “kripa”.
Dubey opened up about his emotional journey during a Diwali special episode of the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
When Bachchan asked what had been going through his mind while being part of the epic, Dubey reflected on the magnitude of the experience and admitted that it had yet to fully sink in.
“Even now, it has been two to two-and-a-half years since we shot the film, and today, all of us are sitting here in your presence. I still feel as though this isn’t really happening, that perhaps it is all a dream,” the actor said.
Recalling his reaction when he first learned that he would play Lakshman, Dubey said he was left stunned by the news. Despite the time that has passed, he said he still struggles to fully comprehend the opportunity.
The actor also spoke about the belief he shares with Mehta, explaining that they attribute such milestones to divine grace rather than personal achievement alone.
“My wife Sargun and I believe that things happen only through grace, through divine ordinance and divine grace,” he said.
The upcoming Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita. Dubey’s portrayal of Lakshman places him among the key figures in the cinematic retelling of the Hindu epic.
The film is scheduled to release on November 5, according to Dubey’s remarks on the show.
