IAF Wing Commander arrested over alleged Defence information leak, probe traces suspected Pakistan espionage link

New Delhi, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force was arrested by Delhi Police in May for allegedly sharing sensitive information related to national defence, with the investigation pointing towards a suspected espionage network allegedly involving Pakistani intelligence operatives, sources said.

The officer, who was arrested on the night of May 31, has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and is currently in judicial custody. The case came to light after the IAF’s Intelligence wing provided specific inputs to Delhi Police.

According to investigators, the officer was allegedly targeted through a “honey trap” operation. Sources said he was going through a difficult phase in his personal life when he was approached by a woman through social media. Their interaction reportedly grew over time and included regular video calls.

Investigators suspect that the woman gradually gained his confidence and subsequently sought photographs, videos and information concerning the movement and deployment of military units. The officer allegedly shared confidential material, including what investigators described as crucial documents and data, through digital communication platforms.

The probe has also found that the officer allegedly attempted to install data-stealing software on a colleague’s mobile phone. Sources described the application as a form of targeted spyware or remote-access malware that could potentially enable data theft, location tracking or interception of communications.

According to the investigation, the woman was allegedly operating at the direction of handlers based in Pakistan. Delhi Police sources said the arrest has raised concerns about a broader network seeking strategic military intelligence.

The IAF spokesperson confirmed that the officer had been under surveillance before being handed over to law enforcement authorities.

Investigators are examining the complete digital trail of communications between the officer and the suspected handlers. They are also assessing whether the information allegedly transmitted could have compromised national security or been intended to facilitate hostile activities in India.

The investigation remains underway, with further details awaited.
