The body of a 21-year-old migrant worker was recovered from bushes near Chonkiwala in Himachal Pradesh’s Nalagarh subdivision on Monday evening, around three days after he went missing.
The deceased, identified as Rajeev, was identified by his family from the clothes and belongings found with the body. His family, which lives in Kripalpur and works as labourers, had reportedly lodged a missing person complaint at the Nalagarh police station after he failed to return home.
According to the family, Rajeev had left home after breakfast about three days earlier and did not return. Relatives subsequently searched for him at several places.
The body was discovered after a woman noticed a foul smell coming from bushes near Chonkiwala. She alerted local residents and authorities, following which police reached the spot and recovered the body.
Rajeev’s father, Mahendra, said the family originally belonged to Lakshmipur in Uttar Pradesh and had migrated to Nalagarh in search of work. He said Rajeev worked as a labourer along with other family members.
Mahendra suspected that unidentified persons may have killed his son and dumped the body at the site. He appealed to the police and administration to conduct a thorough investigation and take legal action against anyone found responsible.
Rajeev’s friend Bansi also said he had been missing for around three days. He noted that the body had deteriorated considerably and suspected that Rajeev may have been killed before being abandoned in the bushes.
Police have taken the body into custody and begun an investigation. However, the suspected murder has not been established at this stage.
The exact cause and circumstances of Rajeev’s death are expected to be determined through the post-mortem examination and further investigation. The family has urged senior police and administrative officials to ensure an impartial probe and establish what led to his death.
