India’s Junior Men’s Hockey Team began their title defence in emphatic fashion at the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, thrashing Indonesia 14-0 in their opening Pool A match on Saturday.
Captain Anmol Ekka, Prabhdeep Singh and Ajeet Yadav led India’s attacking onslaught, scoring 12 goals between them. Prabhdeep was the star of the show with five goals, earning the Player of the Match award, while Anmol struck four times and Yadav completed a hat-trick. Harpal and Ashu Maurya scored the other two goals.
India started aggressively, repeatedly penetrating the Indonesian circle. Prabhdeep opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Harpal doubled the advantage three minutes later, giving India a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Anmol converted a penalty stroke in the 16th minute before Yadav extended the lead in the 20th. Prabhdeep then scored twice in the 26th and 30th minutes to complete his hat-trick and send India into half-time with a 6-0 advantage.
India continued their dominance after the break, with Anmol converting penalty corners in the 35th and 42nd minutes. Prabhdeep added another goal before the end of the third quarter as India moved 9-0 ahead.
The defending champions produced five more goals in the final quarter. Anmol completed his four-goal haul in the 51st minute, followed by Prabhdeep’s fifth goal a minute later.
Yadav then scored twice in the 53rd minute to complete his hat-trick and make it 13-0, while Maurya converted a penalty corner in the 59th minute to seal the 14-0 victory.
India’s 14 goals comprised nine field goals, four penalty-corner conversions and one penalty stroke. Anmol converted three penalty corners and the stroke, while Maurya scored from the fourth set-piece.
The result gives India three points and puts them at the top of Pool A on goal difference, ahead of Japan and South Korea. Indonesia, meanwhile, suffered their second defeat in as many matches after losing 0-9 to South Korea on Friday.
