All schools and offices under the Delhi Directorate of Education will remain closed on September 11 in view of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, the Directorate of Education (DoE) said on Sunday.
According to a circular issued by the DoE, the holiday will apply to government, government-aided and unaided recognised private schools, along with offices under the directorate.
The decision follows an earlier announcement that Central and Delhi government offices will also remain closed on September 11. The move is aimed at reducing public inconvenience amid security arrangements, logistical preparations and motorcade movement linked to the international summit.
The Delhi Traffic Police has been conducting rehearsals and implementing traffic management measures ahead of the Summit, scheduled from September 11 to 13.
As part of the arrangements, traffic diversions have been planned at 22 locations, while regulated movement is expected on more than 35 roads. The Traffic Police also conducted a motorcade rehearsal, enforcing restrictions and diversions between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
With September 12 and 13 falling on Saturday and Sunday, traffic authorities expect relatively lower pressure on those days.
The Traffic Police is also using drones to strengthen real-time traffic monitoring across the capital. Additional Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Goyal Arya said drone surveillance is being carried out over major intersections, arterial roads and congestion-prone corridors to identify bottlenecks and facilitate timely intervention.
Special attention is being given to inter-state border points and areas where vehicle queues build up. Drone-based inputs are helping traffic teams assess congestion, identify choke points and improve on-ground regulation and dispersal strategies.
