The US Open 2026 enters its second week with Round of 16 action getting underway in New York, with defending champions Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka headlining the Day 8 schedule.
Top seed Sabalenka will face American Taylor Townsend at Arthur Ashe Stadium, with the Belarusian aiming to continue her bid for a third consecutive US Open title.
Alcaraz, the second seed and defending men’s champion, will take on American Tommy Paul in another Arthur Ashe Stadium clash. The match is scheduled to begin no earlier than 11.30 p.m. IST on Sunday.
Home favourite Ben Shelton will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has shown signs of a resurgence at the Grand Slam level. The match is scheduled for the early hours of Monday in India.
Former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev will also face an American opponent, with the seventh seed taking on Frances Tiafoe for a place in the quarterfinals.
In the women’s draw, third seed Jessica Pegula will meet 16th seed Sorana Cirstea of Romania, while American 26th seed Emma Navarro faces 21st seed Anna Kalinskaya.
Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, the 11th seed, will take on sixth seed Linda Noskova in another fourth-round contest.
India will also have representation across the senior and junior events. Sriram Balaji will partner American Evan King in the men’s doubles, with the pair facing France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Poland’s Hugo Nys in the second round.
In the junior events, India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, seeded 15th, will face American Elizabeth Combs in the Junior Girls’ Singles first round. In the Junior Boys’ Singles, India’s Arnav Vijay Paparkar will take on 12th-seeded American Alexander Johnson.
