Actress Divya Dutta has opened up about her character Sangeeta in the upcoming film Last Man in Tower, describing her as a woman shaped by vulnerability, protectiveness, frustration and ambition.
Dutta discussed the role alongside co-star Manoj Bajpayee and director Ben Rekhi during the film’s promotional activities in Mumbai’s Andheri West.
Explaining Sangeeta’s circumstances, Dutta said the character could represent any woman trying to make her life more comfortable while dealing with pressures at home. She pointed to Sangeeta having a child with special needs, possible communication issues with her husband and the way everyday responsibilities have gradually affected her life.
According to Dutta, Sangeeta has stopped living in certain ways because her daily routine has taken precedence over her own needs. The character experiences frustration and vulnerability and carries an internal struggle while hoping for a better future.
Dutta said these different emotions come together to define Sangeeta, describing her as “an honest woman. Vulnerable, protective, greedy” and someone audiences could empathise with.
She added that viewers may even find themselves opposing the character, but stressed that the film does not present straightforward heroes and villains.
“There are no rights or wrongs, there are grey areas,” she said, highlighting the complexity of the character.
Dutta also said she enjoyed playing a role with multiple shades, explaining that working with Rekhi and Bajpayee on the scenes often led to unexpected creative discoveries on set.
Last Man in Tower is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 11, 2026.
