Abohar, November 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday announced the transfer of Rs 1,291 crore in financial assistance to more than 37.43 lakh women under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, with the government targeting coverage of one crore beneficiaries across the state.
Addressing a gathering in Abohar, Mann said the latest transfer had taken the total assistance distributed under the scheme to Rs 3,934.80 crore. He said 80.05 lakh women had registered by October 29, 2026, and the government was working to complete registrations for the remaining eligible beneficiaries.
Describing the initiative as a step towards women’s financial independence, the Chief Minister said the scheme had no restrictive household-based conditions and that every eligible woman could receive the benefit individually, even if several beneficiaries belonged to the same family.
Mann said the next instalment would be transferred on December 1, followed by a payment on January 1, when assistance for three months would be credited to beneficiaries’ accounts. He said the scheme could involve annual financial assistance of Rs 12,000 crore once its target was achieved.
The Chief Minister also announced incentives of Rs 51.30 crore for 1,37,723 Satkar Sakhis engaged in facilitating registrations and Rs 25 crore for Anganwadi workers involved in the process.
Taking aim at opposition parties, Mann accused the Akali Dal, Congress and BJP of criticising the scheme for political reasons, asserting that eligible women were receiving benefits irrespective of their political affiliations.
He said the government was returning taxpayers’ money to the public through welfare programmes and development projects. Citing other initiatives, he referred to 54 lakh health cards issued under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, free electricity for more than 90 per cent of households, government recruitment and investments in schools, hospitals, roads and canal irrigation.
Mann claimed that the government had provided 70,685 jobs on merit and said canal irrigation coverage had increased from 26 per cent to 80 per cent, with 60.30 lakh acres now receiving canal water.
Highlighting improvements in government education, he said the number of government-school students clearing NEET had risen from 80 in 2021 to 882 in 2026. He also said 3,100 sports stadiums were being constructed to encourage young people to take up sports.
The Chief Minister said the AAP government would seek another mandate in the 2027 Assembly elections on the basis of its development and welfare work.
