Actress Wamiqa Gabbi has described her transformation into 50-year-old Jyoti Nikam for the upcoming legal drama Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam as an unusual acting experience, saying the prosthetics sometimes made her forget how different she looked.
Gabbi, who plays the character in her 30s, recalled being fascinated by her appearance when she first saw the completed transformation in the mirror.
“The first time I saw myself in the mirror after the prosthetics were done, I couldn’t stop staring! It was such a strange feeling because I knew it was me, but I couldn’t quite recognise the person looking back,” the actress told IANS.
She said the transformation process itself became an important part of inhabiting the character. Watching her face change gradually in the makeup chair helped make the role feel more real, she explained.
“There were moments when I’d forget how different I looked until someone showed me a picture from the set,” Gabbi said, describing the experience as an opportunity to explore a new dimension of her craft.
“Playing Jyoti Nikam was a very different experience for me, and I’m glad I got to explore a side of acting that I hadn’t experienced before,” she added.
Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner.
The film features Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Lalit Prabhakar, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher. It centres on public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and the legal battles surrounding the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Gabbi has appeared in a range of film projects, continuing to explore varied roles on screen.
