Gold and silver futures recovered at the start of Monday’s trade following a sharp sell-off, with bargain buying supporting prices. However, gold remained close to a three-month low, while technical indicators suggested that bearish pressure persisted in the precious metals market.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures opened ₹277 higher at ₹1,42,301 per 10 grams, compared with the previous close of ₹1,42,024. The contract climbed as much as 0.6 per cent to an intraday high of ₹1,42,888 before trading at ₹1,42,500, up ₹476 or 0.34 per cent.
December silver futures opened ₹538 higher at ₹1,96,257 per kg against the previous close of ₹1,95,719. The contract touched an intraday high of ₹1,97,186, gaining ₹1,467 or 0.74 per cent, before slipping to ₹1,95,572, down ₹147 or 0.08 per cent.
Market experts said gold was consolidating between key support and resistance levels after falling nearly 4 per cent last week to close near ₹1.42 lakh per 10 grams.
For MCX gold, immediate resistance was identified at ₹1,43,000–₹1,43,700, followed by ₹1,45,300–₹1,46,000. Support was placed at ₹1,40,000–₹1,41,000. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), near 33, indicated that the metal was approaching oversold territory, while the widening negative MACD histogram pointed to continuing downward momentum.
For silver, resistance was seen at ₹2 lakh–₹2.02 lakh per kg, followed by ₹2.06 lakh–₹2.08 lakh. Support was placed at ₹1.92 lakh–₹1.94 lakh, with a further support zone at ₹1.83 lakh–₹1.85 lakh.
In international markets, COMEX gold opened at $4,012.20 per ounce against its previous close of $4,007.90, while COMEX silver opened at $54.29 against $53.94.
