Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma struck magnificent centuries as India recovered from an early collapse to post 328/6 against Zimbabwe in the second women’s ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday.
Harmanpreet scored 126 off 121 balls, hitting 15 boundaries, while Deepti remained unbeaten on 106 from 86 deliveries, also striking 15 fours. Their 153-run partnership off 137 balls for the fifth wicket propelled India to a commanding total after they slipped to 19/2.
India lost Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma inside the first three overs, with Zimbabwe pacer Nomvelo Sibanda claiming both wickets. Harmanpreet and Pratika Rawal then rebuilt the innings through a 124-run third-wicket stand.
Pratika scored 61 off 67 balls, including four fours and two sixes, before Nyasha Gwanzura ended the partnership in the 23rd over. Tejal Hasabnis fell for three in the following over, leaving India needing another recovery.
Harmanpreet and Deepti took charge, combining controlled strokeplay with aggressive sweeps against Zimbabwe’s spinners. Harmanpreet reached her eighth ODI century off 101 balls before departing for 126, caught at long-off in the 46th over. Richa Ghosh was dismissed for seven soon afterwards.
Deepti ensured India finished strongly, completing her second ODI hundred off 83 balls in the final over. Her innings made her the first Indian woman to score an ODI century while batting at number six or lower, surpassing Richa Ghosh’s previous record of 94 against South Africa at the 2025 ODI World Cup.
The 153-run stand also established a new Indian women’s ODI record for the highest partnership for the fifth wicket or lower, surpassing the 122-run association between Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar against Pakistan in the 2022 ODI World Cup.
With India setting a target of 329, Zimbabwe face a challenging chase as the hosts look to seal the series with a match to spare.
Brief Scores: India 328/6 in 50 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 126, Deepti Sharma 106 not out; Nomvelo Sibanda 2/38, Nyasha Gwanzura 1/43) against Zimbabwe.
