Punjab Police has joined a nationwide motorcycle rally to mark National Unity Day, with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.F. Farooqui flagging off a 10-member contingent from the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Complex in Jalandhar on Sunday.
The rally aims to promote national integration and solidarity, bringing together motorcycle riders representing states across the country. The Punjab Police contingent, accompanied by support personnel, is scheduled to reach New Delhi on October 21.
The riders will join participants from other states for the national-level flag-off before proceeding to take part in the main National Unity Day parade on October 31.
Alongside the message of national unity, the Punjab Police team will use the journey to raise awareness about drug abuse and encourage young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
According to Farooqui, the motorcyclists will make scheduled stops at schools, colleges and public places along the route to interact with students and local communities. Carrying educational and motivational material, they will conduct awareness sessions and deliver messages encouraging people to stay away from drugs.
Farooqui said the initiative combines the promotion of national solidarity with efforts to build a drug-free society. He emphasised the importance of engaging young people, discouraging social vices and motivating them to contribute positively to the country’s future.
National Unity Day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, is observed on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose role in the integration of princely states after Independence remains central to India’s national unity narrative.
