Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning his achievements in politics by comparing his career with the rise of prominent personalities, technology platforms and popular brands over the past two decades.
In a social media post, Shekhawat criticised Gandhi over what he described as false claims and contrasted the Congress leader’s political journey with success stories from cricket, technology, entertainment and the automobile industry.
Shekhawat pointed to former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004 and went on to lead the national team to major International Cricket Council (ICC) titles.
He also cited Facebook and Gmail, both launched in 2004, as examples of platforms that went on to achieve global prominence. YouTube and Google Maps, introduced in 2005, were highlighted for transforming digital content sharing, navigation and travel.
In the automobile sector, the minister referred to the Maruti Suzuki Swift, launched in India in 2005, and the Mahindra Scorpio, introduced in 2002, as examples of vehicles that established strong identities in the Indian market.
Shekhawat also mentioned actor Priyanka Chopra, who won the Miss World title in 2000 and subsequently built an international entertainment career.
Using these examples, the minister questioned what Gandhi had achieved during his long political career, which began in 2004 when he entered the Lok Sabha from Amethi.
Shekhawat further argued that the post of Prime Minister should be secured through public support and a democratic mandate rather than treated as a family inheritance, taking aim at what he portrayed as Gandhi’s claim to the country’s top political office.
The remarks reflect the BJP leader’s criticism of the Congress and the Gandhi family’s political legacy, with Shekhawat drawing a comparison between achievements across different fields and Gandhi’s record in public life.
