Chandigarh, October 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab’s statewide Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) brought together around 21 lakh parents across 19,200 government schools in all 23 districts, as the Bhagwant Mann-led government seeks to strengthen parental involvement and improve the quality of school education under its Sikhiya Kranti initiative.

Held under the theme ‘Har Din, Ik Kadam Agge’, the initiative enabled parents to meet teachers, review their children’s report cards, discuss academic progress and attendance, and identify areas where additional support may be required.

Teachers also offered practical suggestions to help families support children’s learning at home. The meetings highlighted the role of parents and School Management Committees in supporting school development and improving educational outcomes.

Cabinet ministers and Aam Aadmi Party MLAs participated in meetings at schools across the state, while departmental officials visited around 2,000 schools to assess arrangements and monitor the proceedings.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains thanked parents for their participation and expressed appreciation for the School Education Department for organising the statewide exercise.

“The Bhagwant Mann Government wants parents to be active partners in their children’s education. We will work closely with parents and teachers to improve learning, help children move forward and build a brighter future for them. Our goal is to make Punjab’s government schools world-class and ensure that every child gets the best possible opportunities,” Bains said.

Describing the Mega PTM as an initiative to bring families and teachers together, the minister said parents should remain informed about their children’s progress and work with educators to address learning gaps.

Government Focuses on Strengthening School Education

The state government said the Mega PTM was part of its broader effort to improve learning outcomes, strengthen government schools and build on Punjab’s reported number-one ranking in education.

The initiative seeks to ensure that school-level improvements translate into stronger academic foundations for students. Parents were also familiarised with student-support programmes run by the School Education Department and the contribution of School Management Committees to school development.

The government reiterated its objective of transforming public schools into world-class institutions and providing children across Punjab with better educational opportunities.

Parents Highlight Education and Welfare Initiatives

Parents attending the meetings also shared their experiences of the state government’s education reforms and welfare schemes, including the Maavan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna and the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.

One woman participant welcomed the financial assistance provided under the Maavan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, saying it could help families manage household expenses and meet children’s educational needs. The assistance, she said, could contribute towards notebooks, school supplies, uniforms and other essential requirements while improving women’s financial independence.

Another parent appreciated the opportunity to interact regularly with teachers, saying such discussions helped families understand their children’s academic progress and identify subjects or areas requiring additional attention at home.

A parent also welcomed the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, citing the provision of cashless medical coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family. The parent said access to eligible medical treatment without having to arrange large sums upfront could reduce financial pressure during serious illnesses or hospitalisation and help families protect their savings.

Other parents said the Mega PTM provided an opportunity to discuss attendance, classroom performance and learning difficulties directly with teachers, rather than discovering academic problems only at examination time.

The government said it would continue to work with parents and teachers to strengthen Punjab Sikhiya Kranti, improve government schools and advance its vision of a progressive and prosperous ‘Rangla Punjab’ where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
