Sensex Snaps Four-Day Losing Streak, Gains 473 Points as Global Markets Lift Sentiment

Mumbai, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Indian equity markets rebounded on Monday, with the benchmark Sensex gaining 472.77 points to break a four-session losing streak as advances in global markets improved investor sentiment.

The Sensex rose 0.66 per cent to close at 72,382.47, while the Nifty climbed 133.80 points, or 0.60 per cent, to settle at 22,555.75.

Market analysts said the Nifty tested its broken weekly 200-day Simple Moving Average (200-SMA) zone between 22,580 and 22,600 during the session but ended below the key technical band.

According to analysts, a sustained close above 22,600 could strengthen the recovery towards 22,800, while rejection at the level could leave 22,400 as the immediate support.

They said the rebound could gain further momentum if the Nifty closes above 22,600 with broader market participation and the Bank Nifty moves past 55,175. Failure to cross these levels, particularly if crude oil prices strengthen again or the Reserve Bank of India delivers a hawkish policy outcome, could revive selling pressure.

Market sentiment received support from gains in global equities amid expectations that the US Federal Reserve may not need to accelerate interest rate hikes, easing some of the concerns that had pressured stocks in recent sessions.

Among Nifty constituents, ITC, BSE and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles were among the leading gainers.

The broader market also participated in the recovery. The Nifty MidCap index advanced 0.67 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index gained 0.47 per cent.

Consumer-oriented sectors led the sectoral rally, with the Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty FMCG indices outperforming the broader market as investors accumulated stocks in these segments.

Healthcare stocks, however, remained under pressure, with the Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma indices emerging as the weakest-performing sectoral gauges.

Market watchers said equities were approaching a crucial technical juncture, with the possibility of further recovery but continued risk-off sentiment potentially encouraging profit booking until a fresh trigger emerges.

Analysts advised investors to focus on companies with strong earnings visibility and adopt a selective approach to buying on declines rather than aggressively chasing the rebound.

Meanwhile, the rupee remained weak around 96.30 against the US dollar as investors turned cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s policy decision scheduled for Wednesday.
