Kolkata, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Trinamool Congress has questioned the authenticity of a radiodiagnosis report cited by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to challenge Mamata Banerjee’s claim that she suffered a leg fracture during the 2021 Assembly election campaign in Nandigram.

Adhikari on Saturday made public a radiodiagnosis report dated March 11, 2021, from the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, alleging that Banerjee’s claim of sustaining a fracture was false. He also said the state government would initiate a separate investigation into what he described as a fabricated claim.

Responding to the allegations, Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh, who represents Beliaghata in North Kolkata, questioned the report’s authenticity, suggesting that doubts could arise because the state government was now led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Ghosh also said that the treatment of an injured senior citizen was a matter for the attending doctor to decide, including whether the leg required a bandage or a plaster. He accused Adhikari of targeting Banerjee personally because he could not challenge her politically.

However, expelled Trinamool Congress legislator Ritabrata Banerjee, associated with a rebel faction within the party, mocked Mamata Banerjee over the controversy. He sarcastically suggested that she should receive a special award for allegedly misleading the public and urged the state government to organise a ceremony at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground.

Mamata Banerjee had contested the 2021 Assembly election from Nandigram, where she was defeated by Adhikari by a margin of fewer than 2,000 votes. She later won a by-election from Bhabanipur in South Kolkata and continued as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

During the 2021 campaign, Banerjee was reported to have sustained an injury in Nandigram. She subsequently campaigned with her leg in a plaster and used a wheelchair.

Adhikari has now challenged her account of the injury, while the Trinamool Congress has disputed the authenticity of the report he presented.
