Actress Shilpa Shirodkar has returned to learning Kathak after a gap of 35 years, revisiting the classical dance form she first studied under legendary dancer and choreographer Gopi Krishna.

The actress shared a video on social media in which she is seen performing a basic-level toda, accompanied by the beats of the tabla and traditional Kathak bols. Dressed in a white chikankari outfit with red churidar-style bottoms and ghungroos, Shilpa showcased rhythmic footwork and classical dance movements.

Sharing the video, she wrote, “Back on the floor after 35 years at the very school where I learned Kathak from Gopi Krishna ji. So much nostalgia, familiar rhythms and an overflowing heart. So grateful to dance again!”

Gopi Krishna was a prominent figure in Indian classical dance and Hindi cinema. Trained in Kathak, he went on to choreograph several Hindi films, leaving a lasting mark on the dance form and the industry.

Shilpa began her acting career with the 1989 film Bhrashtachar and became a familiar face in Hindi cinema during the 1990s. Her film credits include Kishan Kanhaiya, Hum, Khuda Gawah, Aankhen, Gopi Kishan, Pehchaan, Mrityu Dand, Jai Hind and Gaja Gamini. She also shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in Hum and Khuda Gawah, and worked with actors such as Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Jackie Shroff and Suniel Shetty.

Shilpa has also recalled being considered for the song Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se.., a role that eventually went to Malaika Arora.

After staying away from films for more than a decade, Shilpa returned to the spotlight with Bigg Boss 18. She has since taken on new projects, including Jatadhara.
