The Bihar government has issued an order regarding the promotion and posting of judicial officer Asitabh Kumar as part of an administrative reshuffle aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of district-level courts.
According to the notification issued by the General Administration Department on Tuesday, Kumar, currently serving as District and Additional Sessions Judge in West Champaran (Bettiah), has been promoted to the rank of Principal District and Sessions Judge.
Following his promotion, Kumar has been posted as Principal Judge of the Family Court in Nalanda district, with Bihar Sharif designated as its headquarters.
The administrative decision was taken on the recommendation of the Registrar General of the Patna High Court through Letter No. 82520 dated September 7, 2026. Based on the recommendation, the state government completed the prescribed administrative process and issued the formal posting order.
The notification, issued in the name of the Governor of Bihar, has been signed by Rajnish Kumar, Additional Secretary in the General Administration Department. It directs the concerned judicial officer to assume charge of his new post in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Superintendent of the Government Press and the E-Gazette Cell of the Finance Department for publication in the next extraordinary issue of the Official Gazette. It has also been sent to the Accountant General (Accounts and Entitlements), Law Department, concerned District and Sessions Judges and relevant Finance and Information Technology officials for information and necessary action.
Separately, Bihar Police Headquarters has issued transfer orders involving 112 promoted Reserve Inspectors (Senior Quartermaster), also known as Sergeant Majors, as part of measures to strengthen the administrative setup.
The officers have been transferred to different districts and units. The move follows an earlier order issued in June 2026 under which Reserve Sub-Inspectors (Quartermaster) were assigned the executive charge of the higher post of Reserve Inspector (Senior Quartermaster).
According to the latest order, an imbalance had subsequently emerged between the availability of officers and sanctioned posts across various districts and units. The transfers have been ordered to address the mismatch and streamline the deployment of officers.
