Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock has revealed that she remembers little about the night she won her first Academy Award because she was focused on keeping the birth of her newborn son, Louis, private and returning home to care for him.
Bullock, 62, recently appeared on the talk show Live with Kelly and Mark, where she recalled secretly caring for her newborn while attending the 2010 Academy Awards.
The actress won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance as real-life football mother Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. Released in 2009, the film also won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 2010 ceremony.
When host Mark Consuelos asked what she remembered most about winning the award, Bullock jokingly replied, “Nothing.” Co-host Kelly Ripa responded, “Nobody does.”
Bullock explained that she had barely slept because she was caring for Louis, whose acid reflux meant he woke approximately every two hours.
“I had maybe two hours of sleep? I was hiding a newborn. No one knew I had Lou, and he had acid reflux, so he slept only every two hours. So I don’t remember much of the night,” she said.
Despite the significance of winning an Oscar, Bullock said her priority was getting home to her son so she could feed him, as she knew the person caring for him was likely struggling.
The actress recalled arriving home still dressed in her Oscars gown. Unable to get out of the dress, she said she simply remained in it while sitting with Louis.
“I was there in the dress, and I couldn’t get out of the dress, so I just sat in the dress with Lou. The Oscar was on the floor and Lou was on my lap,” she recalled.
Bullock said the experience ultimately made the night more manageable because she was already overwhelmed and exhausted.
“It was the best way to have that night because it was so overwhelming in general. I think it would have been more overwhelming had I not been so tired. And I just wanted to go home,” she said.
