Investigators probing a suspected drone-based arms smuggling operation near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan have reported the arrest of Kulwant Singh, alias Sukkha, in Punjab, alleging that he coordinated the retrieval of explosives and foreign-made weapons dropped by a drone in the Rawla area.
According to preliminary findings, Sukkha was allegedly in contact with a Pakistan-based handler identified as ‘Chacha Ali’ and had directed two men from Punjab to collect the consignment. He is being questioned by intelligence agencies in Punjab, while the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is preparing to take him into custody in connection with the case.
The two men arrested earlier, Lakhwinder Singh Raisikh of Ferozepur district and Sukhwinder Singh Raisikh of Jalandhar district, were sent to judicial custody on Wednesday after their police remand ended. Additional Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar said the accused had allegedly disclosed Sukkha’s involvement during questioning.
The case emerged on the night of October 12, when security agencies received information about three packets reportedly dropped by a drone in a field at Chak 4 KNM in Rawla, around one kilometre from the Khanuwali Border Outpost.
A joint operation involving the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Border Security Force and other agencies led to the two alleged recipients being apprehended.
The seized material included 7.75 kg of RDX, two Zigana pistols, four magazines and 867 cartridges, along with batteries and remote-control devices.
Senior Rajasthan Police officials, including ADGP Dinesh M.N., ADG Biju George Joseph and ATS Deputy Inspector General Ramamurthy Joshi, have also questioned the accused as part of the investigation.
The Rajasthan ATS and Special Operations Group are examining the suspected links between the alleged Pakistan-based handler, the network operating in Punjab and those tasked with collecting the consignment. Investigators are also trying to establish the intended destination of the weapons and explosives and identify others who may have been involved.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the responsibility of each accused will be determined through the legal process.
