Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam and spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chair of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
During the meeting, President Murmu appreciated the work undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network and highlighted the potential of partnerships between non-profit organisations and the government to improve people’s quality of life.
“His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President appreciated the work undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network and said it demonstrates how non-profit organisations, working in partnership with the government, can improve people’s quality of life,” the President’s Secretariat said in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V met Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhavan. Their discussions focused on the AKDN’s contributions to water and sanitation, women-led Self-Help Groups, education and community development, as well as its initiatives in East Africa and Afghanistan.
The two sides also discussed ways to expand cooperation between India and the Aga Khan Development Network in areas including sports and education. They reaffirmed the importance of countering radicalisation and stressed that dialogue remains essential for peace, stability and shared prosperity.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Their discussions covered ways to further strengthen cooperation with the AKDN in healthcare, agriculture, rural development, youth and women’s empowerment.
“Happy to meet His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V. Fondly recalled his father, the late Aga Khan IV and his enduring contributions to development efforts,” Modi said in a post on X.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V is on a seven-day official visit to India at the invitation of Vice President Radhakrishnan.
