Top-seeded German Alexander Zverev advanced to the fourth round of the 2026 US Open with a straight-set victory over Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo at Arthur Ashe Stadium, while American fourth seed Learner Tien battled past Jakub Mensik in a five-set marathon.
Zverev prevailed 6-2, 7-6(2), 6-2 in 2 hours and 26 minutes to reach the fourth round in New York for the sixth time in his career.
The reigning Roland Garros champion entered the contest after two marathon five-set matches that took a combined nine hours and 26 minutes, but he made relatively quick work of Tabilo.
After comfortably taking the opening set, Zverev faced a tougher challenge in the second. He saved two set points before breaking Tabilo to move 6-5 ahead, only for the Chilean to break back and force a tie-break.
Zverev remained composed in the decider and took control in the third set, securing a crucial break at 3-2 before closing out the match.
The German will next face 25th seed Luciano Darderi, who defeated Australian wildcard Dane Sweeny 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.
At Louis Armstrong Stadium, Tien defeated Mensik 6-3, 1-6, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 in a three-hour, 24-minute battle to continue his career-best run at his home Grand Slam.
The 20-year-old also matched Andy Roddick’s record as the youngest American to reach the US Open fourth round. Roddick was 20 when he achieved the feat in 2002.
Tien will face former World No. 8 Karen Khachanov, who defeated Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the fourth round for the first time since 2022. Khachanov reached the semifinals that year before losing to Casper Ruud.
