Music composer and singer Anurag Saikia has released his latest song ‘Badeela’, a vibrant fusion of Assam and Rajasthan that celebrates love through the distinct musical and visual traditions of the two regions.
Describing the track as a joyful expression of romance, Saikia said the song brings together contrasting cultural influences while retaining a contemporary sound.
“Badeela is a fusion of Assam and Rajasthan, brought to life through an incredible collaborative effort,” Saikia said. The song features Rajasthani singer Raja Hasan and Assamese vocalist Dipakshi Kalita, with Naresh Kamath on bass and Ishan Das contributing to the musical arrangement.
Saikia particularly highlighted Kamath’s contribution, saying the decision to have him play bass worked especially well because “the bassline truly drives the song”.
While his earlier song ‘Ishq Hai’ explored romance in a quieter manner, Saikia said ‘Badeela’ takes a more energetic approach.
“Badeela is designed to be a vibrant, joyous celebration and expression of love,” he said.
The song presents love as an emotion that is experienced before it is articulated. Its visual treatment draws from Rajasthan’s colourful cultural landscape, incorporating vibrant hues, textures and traditional adornments to depict the subtle transformation associated with falling in love.
‘Badeela’ features Anurag Saikia, JUNO, Raja Hasan and Dipakshi Kalita, with JUNO credited as lyricist and Saikia as composer. The track explores themes of intimacy, distance and longing through a blend of regional musical influences.
Saikia, who hails from Moran in Assam, is a composer, music director, producer and instrumentalist known for his work in films and independent music. He became one of the youngest composers to receive the Rajat Kamal for Best Music Direction for a Non-Feature Film for ‘Yugadrashta’.
His work across films and streaming projects includes songs such as ‘Aise Kyun’ from ‘Mismatched’, ‘Ek Tukda Dhoop’ from ‘Thappad’, ‘Bas Ek Baar’, ‘Chota Sa Fasana’ featuring Arijit Singh, ‘Ishq Hai’ from ‘Mismatched’ and ‘Dooriyan’ with Raghav Chaitanya.
