BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has once again submitted his resignation to party president Nitin Nabin, citing pressing financial and personal circumstances and requesting that he be relieved of his responsibilities and primary membership.
Poonawalla had first offered to resign from all party posts and primary membership on July 30. The BJP had declined to accept his resignation at the time and asked him to reconsider his decision.
Taking to social media platform X on Monday, Poonawalla said he had again submitted his resignation with “utmost humility, sense of affection and gratitude” and requested that it be accepted.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nitin Nabin, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, as well as the wider Sangh Parivar, for their guidance and the opportunities provided to him.
“In no other country and no other party would a story like mine, of a young, Pasmanda Muslim, non-dynast, even be possible,” he said.
Poonawalla said his decision was being taken after “long and hard contemplation” and that he now wanted to step down as BJP national spokesperson and from active primary membership.
He said recent developments involving certain individuals had further reinforced his decision, referring to concerns that he had previously communicated to the party leadership.
Poonawalla said he would move into the private sector because of “pressing emergency financial and personal circumstances”, but maintained that his ideological commitment to the BJP’s broader vision would continue.
“Our Mission, Vision to VIKSIT BHARAT & MAKE INDIA GREAT AGAIN will continue with more vigour and passion under the greatest leader India has had, Narendra Modi ji. Vande Mataram, Jai Hind,” he said.
He also thanked BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh, along with the party for the platform and opportunities he received during his five years in the organisation.
“Wherever possible and in whatever format possible, I will continue to support the vision and work of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP,” Poonawalla said.
Summing up his decision, he added: “I am only leaving the Vyavastha, not the Vyakti or Vichar.”
