A massive fire broke out at a mustard oil packing factory in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Saturday morning, prompting the evacuation of nearby industrial units as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The fire erupted at Alwar Salvex in the Matsya Industrial Area (MIA) around 6 a.m. and intensified rapidly, reportedly fuelled by large quantities of oil and packaging material stored at the facility.
Towering flames and thick smoke were visible from a considerable distance, triggering panic in the industrial area and drawing a large crowd near the site.
More than 12 fire tenders from Alwar and Khairthal-Tijara were deployed to battle the blaze. Additional fire tenders were also summoned from Bhiwadi and Khairthal-Tijara to strengthen the firefighting operation.
Fire official Amit Meena said firefighters were continuously using water jets to prevent the flames from spreading. Nearby factories were evacuated as a precaution because of the intensity of the fire and the presence of combustible material.
Rajasthan Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. He met factory owner Pawan Chaudhary and took stock of the situation.
Alwar Collector Artika Shukla said administrative and fire department teams were at the site and efforts to extinguish the fire were continuing.
Authorities were closely monitoring the situation because of the presence of oil and other combustible materials at the factory.
The cause of the fire had not been ascertained at the time of filing the report. Fire department personnel and other officials were investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
