Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists Sharmila Dhankar, Lovlina Borgohain and Jhandu Kumar are set to trade the sporting arena for the television studio, with the trio expected to appear on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
According to sources close to the development, the three athletes will take the coveted hot seat opposite veteran Bollywood actor and KBC host Amitabh Bachchan. The special episode featuring the Glasgow Games medallists is expected to be broadcast after August 15.
Sharmila Dhankar, one of the notable performers in India’s Glasgow campaign, won gold in the women’s F57 shot put event. Her journey to the Commonwealth podium has been particularly inspiring, as she overcame domestic violence before emerging as a Games champion.
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain will feature after winning silver in the women’s 75kg category. She lost 1-4 to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the final but secured a podium finish for India.
Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar also contributed to India’s medal tally by winning bronze in the men’s heavyweight event. His 190kg lift, which earned 130.9 points, gave India its first medal of the Games.
India finished fourth in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. Despite a reduced programme that did not include disciplines such as wrestling, shooting and hockey, India produced strong performances, with boxing accounting for 10 medals, including seven gold.
Athletics and para-athletics also made significant contributions, while judo and para-powerlifting added to India’s medal haul. India subsequently handed over the Commonwealth Games baton to Ahmedabad, host city for the 2030 edition.
Kaun Banega Crorepati, the official Hindi adaptation of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? format, has been closely associated with Amitabh Bachchan, who has hosted every season except the third, when Shah Rukh Khan presented the show. The latest season premiered on Sony Entertainment Television on August 10.
The upcoming episode will give the three athletes an opportunity to share their sporting journeys and achievements with viewers from the iconic KBC hot seat.
