In a major crackdown on cross-border narcotics and illegal arms trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a smuggling module with the arrest of five persons and the seizure of 21.299 kg heroin, 970 grams of ICE (methamphetamine), an illegal .30 bore pistol and four live cartridges.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the action was part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign to make the state safe and secure under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gagan alias Dishka (23) and Jaspinder Singh (25), both residents of Nikosaran village in Gurdaspur district; Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh (30) of Adda Jentipur in Amritsar Rural; Abhishek Sabharwal alias Abhi (25) of Sharma Colony, Amritsar; and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu (26) of Channanke village in Amritsar Rural.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation has revealed that the key accused was in direct contact with a foreign-based smuggler, who was facilitating the smuggling of heroin and illegal weapons across the International Border for further distribution in Punjab.
He said investigations are underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the network and identify all those connected with the cross-border handlers.
Sharing details of the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, said police teams initially arrested Gagan alias Dishka and Jaspinder Singh on the basis of reliable intelligence. During their search, police recovered one illegal pistol along with four live cartridges.
Subsequent interrogation led to the recovery of 1.01 kg heroin and 970 grams of ICE based on the disclosures made by the two accused.
During further investigation, the duo disclosed the names of their associates, following which police teams arrested Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh, Abhishek Sabharwal alias Abhi and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu. Another 20.2 kg heroin was recovered from their possession.
Police investigations have also revealed that Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh is a habitual offender and has previously been booked in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
An FIR (No. 24 dated July 29, 2026) has been registered at Police Station Airport, Amritsar, under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act and Sections 21-C, 22-C and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress.
