Gehlot Camp’s Jagdish Jangid Replaces Pilot Loyalist Dheeraj Gurjar as Congress AICC Secretary for UP

Jaipur, August 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Congress has carried out a major reshuffle of its team of AICC Secretaries attached to the party’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge, removing six existing office-bearers and appointing a new group of leaders for organisational responsibilities in the state.

Among those relieved of their duties is Rajasthan leader Dheeraj Gurjar, a known supporter of former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who had been associated with the Uttar Pradesh Congress organisation for nearly seven years.

Replacing Gurjar is former Rajasthan MLA Jagdish Chandra Jangid, who is considered close to former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Jangid has been appointed as an AICC Secretary attached to the General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh.

The newly appointed AICC Secretaries for Uttar Pradesh are Jagdish Chandra Jangid, Abhishek Dutt, Kunal Chaudhary, Sanjeev Arya, Varun Chaudhary and Abdul Mannan.

They replace Dheeraj Gurjar, Nilanshu Chaturvedi, Pradeep Narwal, Rajesh Tiwari, Satyanarayan Patel and Tauqir Alam, who have been relieved of their assignments.

Gurjar was appointed as an AICC Secretary in 2019 during Rahul Gandhi’s tenure as Congress president. He initially worked under Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was then the party’s General Secretary in charge of Western Uttar Pradesh. Later, after organisational changes, Gurjar was attached to Priyanka Gandhi and continued handling responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh.

Even after Mallikarjun Kharge took over as Congress president, Gurjar retained his role and was reappointed as a Co-in-charge Secretary for Uttar Pradesh in 2024.

A former MLA from the Jahazpur Assembly constituency of Bhilwara district, Gurjar is considered a close associate of Priyanka Gandhi and is identified with the Sachin Pilot faction within the Rajasthan Congress. He began his political journey through the NSUI and Youth Congress before entering electoral politics.

Jangid, a former MLA from Sadulshahar, is regarded as an influential OBC leader in the Rajasthan Congress. A graduate of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, and a lawyer by profession, he is widely seen as being aligned with the Ashok Gehlot camp.

Political observers believe the reshuffle reflects changing organisational priorities within the Congress, with the party looking to strengthen its structure in Uttar Pradesh while also maintaining representation from Rajasthan.

Sources said Jangid’s appointment could also help the party project a prominent OBC face in key organisational assignments ahead of future political challenges.
