A student who topped the 2026 Uttar Madhyama (Class 12) examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Sanskrit Education Council has been booked in Pratapgarh following allegations of identity fraud and the use of forged documents.
Rajneesh Yadav, who secured the highest rank in the state examination, is facing an FIR registered at Aspur Devsara Police Station on charges of fraud, forgery and the alleged use of fabricated documents. The case was registered following a complaint filed by a family member.
Police and the education department have launched separate investigations into the allegations.
The examination results, declared on April 24, had placed Rajneesh Yadav, a student of Shri Ramtahl Sanskrit Higher Secondary School in Yadunathpur Saifabad, at the top of the state merit list with 89.36 per cent marks. His achievement had drawn widespread attention, with his success being celebrated as an inspiring story of academic excellence.
The school had also gained recognition after two of its students featured among the state’s top performers. However, the authenticity of Rajneesh’s credentials is now under scrutiny.
According to officials, complainant Jagat Prasad alleged that the student’s identity and educational records were based on forged documents and sought legal action.
The complaint claims that the student’s earlier educational records, ration card and voter list identified him as Ajay Kumar, with his date of birth recorded as May 13, 1998. It further alleges that his name was later changed to Rajneesh Yadav and his date of birth altered to July 1, 2010, in other official records, including his Aadhaar card.
Based on the allegedly altered documents, he is accused of securing admission to a Sanskrit school and appearing for the Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Board examination in 2026.
Patti Circle Officer Pradeep Kumar Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway.
He said police will verify the student’s Aadhaar card, educational records, birth certificate, admission documents and other official records before deciding on further legal action based on the findings.
District School Inspector Omkar Rana also confirmed that the education department has initiated an independent inquiry into the matter.
He said a dedicated team would examine the student’s academic records, birth certificate and other relevant documents to verify their authenticity before submitting its report.
