The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will organise a National Townhall on the E20 petrol issue at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Saturday, with people from across the country expected to participate both physically and online.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the event will begin at 12 noon and will provide a platform for citizens to share their concerns and experiences regarding E20 blended petrol.
Kejriwal said a nationally recognised personality will also participate in the townhall to listen to public concerns and contribute to discussions on the issue.
“I appeal to people across the country to participate in the townhall, either offline or online, and put forward their views,” he said.
The townhall is being organised as part of AAP’s campaign questioning the impact of E20 petrol, particularly on older vehicles. The party has claimed that the use of E20 fuel may affect vehicle performance and mileage, while the Central Government has maintained that the fuel blend is safe for vehicles.
AAP said Kejriwal had earlier written to 29 automobile manufacturers seeking clarification on whether E20 petrol is suitable for older vehicles and whether it could cause any damage. He also questioned who would compensate vehicle owners if any losses occurred due to the fuel blend.
According to the party, none of the 29 companies responded formally to the letter. However, AAP claimed that representatives of nine automobile companies informed Kejriwal during meetings that E20 may not be suitable for older vehicles.
Kejriwal had announced the townhall earlier this week, calling for a nationwide discussion on the issue. The party has opened online participation for citizens, with thousands expected to join virtually, while a large number of people from Delhi and the National Capital Region are likely to attend the event at the venue.
