Chandigarh, June 27, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
In a fresh twist to the ongoing disproportionate assets (DA) case against former Punjab minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has summoned Niranjan Singh, retired Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), for assistance in the probe.
Singh has been asked to appear at the Vigilance Bureau office at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Confirming the development to the media, Singh stated he is willing to cooperate and share the findings of the investigation report he prepared during his tenure regarding Majithia’s alleged involvement.
Singh’s Crucial Role in Earlier Drug Investigations
Niranjan Singh is no stranger to high-profile investigations. As ED Deputy Director, he previously led a detailed probe into a major Punjab drug trafficking case involving 102 individuals. While Majithia was not formally named in the FIR, Singh noted that multiple accused had mentioned his connections and possible involvement.
Importantly, Singh prepared a status report during that time, which was submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, shedding light on alleged links and financial trails. However, his work was abruptly interrupted when he was transferred from Jalandhar, and he eventually retired in 2021.
Former DGP Also Steps In Voluntarily
In an unexpected move, former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Siddharth Chattopadhyay also visited the Vigilance Bureau office on Friday. Speaking to reporters afterward, Chattopadhyay clarified that he was not summoned, nor did he record any statement, but voluntarily shared insights from his time handling the original case against Majithia.
Chattopadhyay emphasized that he had firsthand knowledge of several details and chose to aid the investigation team based on a sense of professional responsibility.
Majithia in Custody
Majithia, who was recently arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in connection with the freshly registered DA case, is currently in seven-day custody. The case has gained momentum with the involvement of key retired officials now stepping forward to assist the investigation.
This development signals a possible turning point in the Majithia case, as officials with historic ties to the earlier drug and corruption investigations re-engage with the process. With high-level inputs coming in, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau appears to be building a deeper, more comprehensive narrative around the DA charges.
