Delhi Police have arrested two 21-year-old men in connection with an alleged attempt-to-murder and robbery case in Sonia Vihar, recovering the weapon used in the attack, a robbed gold chain, the victim’s mobile phone and ₹1.03 lakh in cash, officials said.
According to a police statement, Sonia Vihar Police Station received a PCR call at around 12:18 a.m. on August 12 regarding an injured man found near First Pusta. The injured, identified as 32-year-old Pramod Yadav, was initially taken to JPC Hospital and later shifted by his family to Max Super Speciality Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where he was admitted to the ICU and underwent surgery.
Police said Yadav works at a jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk. While returning home after parking his car near 2.5 Pushta in Sonia Vihar, he was allegedly approached by two unidentified men on a service road who attempted to rob him.
During the incident, the accused allegedly attacked Yadav with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing with his gold chain and mobile phone.
A case was registered as FIR No. 163/2026 under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sonia Vihar Police Station, and a dedicated team led by Inspector P.K. Jha, SHO, was constituted to investigate the matter.
Based on evidence and information gathered during the investigation, police arrested Mubbashir and Salman from the area near Chauhan Patti.
During questioning, the two allegedly admitted their involvement and the victim’s mobile phone was recovered from their possession.
Police said sustained interrogation revealed that the accused had pawned the stolen gold chain at Muthoot Bank in the Main Market area of 3rd Pusta, Sonia Vihar. At their instance, ₹1,03,000, which they had received against the pledged chain, was recovered. The approximately 24-gram gold chain and the related pawn and loan documents were subsequently recovered from the bank.
The alleged weapon, identified as a surgical blade, was also recovered from bushes near Chauhan Patti at the instance of the accused.
Following the recoveries and further investigation, Sections 309(4), 311, 317 and 3(5) of the BNS were added to the case on August 14.
Police said no previous criminal record has been found against either of the arrested men. Further investigation is underway.
