The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a youth identified as Wasit in Tonk district over suspected links with a terrorist organisation, according to sources, as security agencies investigate possible terror networks operating in the state.
Sources said Wasit was taken to Jaipur for questioning and could subsequently be brought to Delhi for further interrogation. Investigators are also examining whether he was in contact with a handler allegedly associated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
ATS teams conducted searches at Wasit’s residence in Tonk as part of the probe. During the searches, officials are learnt to have seized digital devices and information related to bank accounts and financial transactions, sources said.
Investigators are expected to examine the recovered material to determine the nature and extent of the suspected links. Digital communications and financial records are also being scrutinised for possible connections with individuals or networks associated with the banned organisation.
The Rajasthan ATS has not officially confirmed Wasit’s detention or the specific allegations against him so far. The investigation remains underway, and the nature of his alleged association with any terrorist organisation has not yet been established.
The development comes against the backdrop of another Rajasthan ATS investigation into an alleged JeM-linked network.
In June, the Rajasthan ATS, acting on intelligence inputs from Military Intelligence, arrested Jaipur-based woman Babita Dhakad over alleged links with the Pakistan-based terror organisation. She was also known by the alias “Khadija”, according to reports.
Investigators had alleged that Dhakad was in contact with individuals linked to JeM through social media and messaging platforms. Her electronic devices and online communications were examined during the investigation.
The case also raised concerns among investigators over the potential use of online platforms for radicalisation and recruitment. Dhakad, originally from the Sawai Madhopur/Gangapur City region of Rajasthan, had been living in Jaipur when she was arrested following intelligence inputs about suspected contacts with extremist elements based outside India.
