Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended greetings to personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on the force’s 65th Raising Day, praising their courage, determination and sacrifices in service of the nation.
In a post on X, Modi lauded the ITBP personnel, known as Himveers, for their exceptional valour and commitment to overcoming challenges.
“Their selfless service and sacrifices are a source of immense inspiration to the nation,” the Prime Minister said, acknowledging the force’s contribution to national security.
The ITBP, raised on October 24, 1962, guards the 3,488-km India-China border, stretching from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.
Marking the occasion, the force extended greetings to its personnel, Himveeranganas and their families, reaffirming its commitment to national service.
In its message on X, the ITBP highlighted its motto, “Shaurya, Dridhta, Karmanishtha” — Valour, Steadfastness and Dedication — and reiterated its resolve to remain devoted to the country.
The force operates in some of the country’s most challenging high-altitude environments. According to the Union Home Ministry, many of its Border Out Posts are situated between 9,000 and 18,800 feet, where temperatures can fall to minus 45 degrees Celsius during severe winters.
Beyond border security, the ITBP performs internal security duties, including operations against Left-Wing Extremism in Chhattisgarh.
The force also specialises in mountaineering, skiing and tactical operations. It regularly undertakes search, rescue and relief missions as a first responder during natural disasters, particularly across the Himalayan region.
Over the years, the ITBP has carried out numerous operations to assist people affected by natural calamities, reinforcing its role in both national security and humanitarian response.
