The Congress has intensified preparations for the INDIA bloc’s November 1 mega rally against alleged electoral irregularities, with party general secretary KC Venugopal holding meetings with senior leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to mobilise support for the event in the national capital.
Venugopal said he and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met AICC in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Rajendra Pal Gautam, UP Congress president Aradhana Misra ‘Mona’ and other senior leaders to discuss strategies for ensuring large-scale participation from the state.
A separate meeting was held with AICC in-charge Sanjay Dutt, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh and other senior leaders to strengthen mobilisation efforts in Haryana.
The rally will be held at Ramleela Maidan in New Delhi and is being planned as the culmination of a ‘Delhi Chalo’ march scheduled for the same day. Venugopal expressed confidence that at least one million people would participate in the march and rally.
The Congress leader described the campaign against what the party calls “Vote Chori” as a major movement to protect democracy and alleged that electoral irregularities had been orchestrated by “Gyanesh and Co.” at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said the participation of people from across the country would demonstrate the opposition alliance’s unity and determination to challenge what it alleges are attempts to undermine the democratic process.
The INDIA bloc has been organising protests and awareness campaigns over alleged irregularities in elections. The November 1 gathering is expected to be a significant mobilisation by the opposition, with the Congress placing particular emphasis on participation from northern states.
The party has appealed to supporters and citizens concerned about electoral integrity to join the march and rally at Ramleela Maidan.
