Two men allegedly involved in fraud, robbery and snatching cases were arrested after an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad late Friday night. Both suspects sustained gunshot injuries to their legs during retaliatory firing and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police recovered two country-made pistols, ammunition, spent cartridges and the scooter allegedly used by the suspects.
According to police, the Sihani Gate police station received information around 11 p.m. that two suspects, previously linked to criminal cases in the area, were allegedly planning another offence. Acting on the tip-off, a police team set up a checking point near DPS School on Meerut Road.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ziauddin Ahmed said two men arriving on a scooter were stopped for checking but allegedly attempted to escape and opened fire at the police team.
Police personnel retaliated in self-defence, injuring both suspects in the legs, Ahmed said. The men were identified as Gaurav and Vivek and were subsequently arrested.
During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that several cases had been registered against them at different police stations. Police said they were also suspected of involvement in fraud and snatching incidents across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Investigators are verifying the suspects’ criminal records and examining their possible links to earlier cases. The recovered weapons, ammunition and scooter are also part of the ongoing investigation.
Both accused remain under medical treatment, while further legal proceedings are underway.
