The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches at around half a dozen locations in Mumbai and Delhi, including offices, residential premises and a farmhouse in Maharashtra, as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged illegal foreign exchange receipts by Mega Millennium Private Limited from Dubai and Singapore.
The searches were carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. According to the agency, investigators examined digital devices and documents suspected to be linked to the company’s financial transactions.
During the operation, the ED also searched a farmhouse in Karjat, Maharashtra, where foreign currency, Indian currency and valuables worth several crores of rupees were detected, an official said.
The investigation is focused on Harish Dedhiya, a Mumbai-based consultant and director of Mega Millennium Private Limited. The ED alleged that the company and its directors, including Dedhiya and his wife, Dhara Dedhiya, received substantial amounts of foreign exchange from suspicious companies based in Dubai and Singapore.
According to the agency, its investigation indicated that Dedhiya incorporated companies by appointing his employees or other individuals as directors. These entities allegedly received hundreds of crores of rupees within a year of their incorporation, with the funds subsequently routed through multiple shell entities.
The searches form part of the ED’s efforts to investigate the suspected movement and layering of funds. The allegations are under investigation.
ED Searches 10 Locations in Human Egg Extraction Case
In a separate investigation in Maharashtra, the ED searched 10 premises, including hospitals and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) centres, in Thane, Baramati and Nashik on October 16. The agency seized digital evidence and Rs 29 lakh in cash during the operation.
The searches were conducted by the ED’s Mumbai Zonal Office-II under the PMLA, 2002.
The money laundering investigation stems from an FIR and a subsequent chargesheet filed by Badlapur (East) Police Station in Thane district. The case names Manjusha Wankhede and 16 others and alleges cheating and forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with violations of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
According to the ED, the case concerns an alleged organised network that recruited financially vulnerable women for human egg donation and supplied them to IVF centres and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) banks through agents operating under different proprietorship concerns.
The agency is examining the alleged network and related financial transactions as part of its investigation.
