Indian-American Republican Saritha Komatireddy has received the endorsement of the New York Post editorial board in her challenge to New York Attorney General Letitia James, as early voting in the state begins.
“The Post enthusiastically endorses Saritha Komatireddy over Attorney General Letitia James,” the newspaper’s editorial board said on Friday, praising Komatireddy’s prosecutorial experience and pledges to tackle crime, fraud and corruption.
Komatireddy, 41, has worked as a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, handling cases involving international terrorism, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, money laundering and public corruption, according to the newspaper.
In remarks quoted by the Post, she cited incidents affecting her family and acquaintances to argue that public safety had deteriorated in New York.
“We’ve had a member of my family assaulted in the subway, taking my kids to school. We have a family friend who had a stray bullet come through her bedroom while she was sleeping,” she said.
Komatireddy also accused James of failing to adequately address public safety. The Post’s editorial criticised James, while citing her position that the attorney general’s responsibilities focus on civil rather than criminal matters.

The endorsement comes amid a closely watched campaign, with Komatireddy sharing the newspaper’s backing on X and promoting a new campaign advertisement on homelessness.
Her campaign has also highlighted an OnMessage Inc. poll surveyed among 1,000 likely voters from October 12 to 14. The survey showed James leading 50.7 per cent to 44.7 per cent. Among respondents who watched the candidates’ October 8 debate, Komatireddy led 81 per cent to 19 per cent, according to the poll.
James’ campaign dismissed the survey, accusing Komatireddy of being aligned with President Donald Trump. A Siena survey last month had shown James leading by 13 percentage points.
James, a Democrat, was first elected attorney general in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. She gained national attention through her civil fraud case against Trump and his company.
Early voting runs from October 24 to November 1, with the general election scheduled for November 3.
