Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has made her debut on X by sharing personal memories of how her love story with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi began at a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge, England, in 1965.
In a video accompanying the post, Sonia Gandhi reflected on their first meeting and the early days of their relationship while introducing her forthcoming memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, scheduled for release on November 10.
“In a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge, my journey of love began. Rajiv and I created a world filled with love, laughter and memories. On 10th November, I share that world with you,” she wrote.
Recalling their introduction through a mutual friend, Sonia said she felt almost immediately that Rajiv was someone she would love to be with. The two initially became friends and began attending parties with their social circle.
She remembered his gentle demeanour as one of the qualities that particularly attracted her. “Of course he was very good-looking,” she said, adding that his gentleness had left a lasting impression on her.
Sonia Gandhi had also joined Instagram on Thursday, sharing the first look of her memoir and describing it as a story of “love, duty, loss, and finding a place to belong.” A video posted there showed her receiving copies of the book and celebrating the moment with her daughter, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Published globally by Alfred A. Knopf, with HarperCollins India handling its Indian release, the 544-page memoir traces Sonia Gandhi’s journey from her childhood in post-war Italy to her relationship with Rajiv Gandhi and her eventual role in Indian politics. It also recounts the personal tragedies that shaped her life, including the assassinations of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Pre-orders for the memoir have opened ahead of its November 10 release.
