PM Modi Announces ₹8,000-Crore Guwahati-Tezpur Access-Controlled Corridor Project

Guwahati, August 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a four-lane access-controlled Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor on National Highway-15, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh while boosting trade, tourism and regional economic growth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the approval on social media platform X on Thursday, describing the project as a significant step towards strengthening connectivity and development in Assam.

The Prime Minister said the corridor would reduce travel time, enhance road safety and help ease congestion through the construction of major bypasses. The project will also include an Emergency Landing Facility at Tezpur, besides bridges, flyovers, underpasses and service roads to improve overall transportation efficiency.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for approving the project, which is estimated to cost more than ₹8,000 crore.

Sarma said the corridor would provide a major boost to trade and tourism while also strengthening strategic infrastructure in the Northeast due to the inclusion of the Emergency Landing Facility.

He added that Assam and the wider Northeast region have witnessed significant expansion of connectivity infrastructure under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, opening new avenues for economic growth and development.

The Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor is expected to provide an alternative high-speed route on NH-15, reducing congestion on the existing highway network. It will improve logistics movement, facilitate faster transportation of goods and enhance access to important destinations in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Emergency Landing Facility at Tezpur will add strategic value to the corridor by enabling portions of the highway to be used for emergency aircraft operations when required.

The project, featuring bypasses, bridges, flyovers, underpasses and service roads, is part of the Centre’s wider initiative to expand transport infrastructure across the Northeast through increased investment in highways, railways, bridges and air connectivity.
