Actress Olivia Culpo has urged expectant mothers to ignore the pressure and comparisons surrounding pregnancy weight gain, saying growing bigger during pregnancy is part of the process of carrying a healthy baby.
The 34-year-old actress, who is 37 weeks pregnant with her and NFL star husband Christian McCaffrey’s second child, shared the advice in a TikTok video, encouraging mothers-to-be not to worry about gaining weight.
“I want to talk about pregnancy weight gain. I feel like everybody’s always so surprised by like, ‘Oh my god, she really blows up’. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I am growing a baby,” Culpo said.
She said she sees her own weight gain as a sign that her baby is growing and added that expectant mothers should not compare their postpartum journeys with those of other women.
“These days, everybody’s getting skinny. You’re doing the most selfless thing that you could ever do for the best reason ever,” she said.
Culpo also cautioned against judging how quickly another woman loses weight after childbirth, pointing out that factors such as breastfeeding and milk supply can differ from person to person.
“You don’t know what that person’s supply was like. You don’t know what that person’s labour was like. The only thing you can control is what you’re doing as a mother for your child. Everything else is just noise,” she said.
The actress also spoke about her husband’s support, saying McCaffrey has reminded her that she needs to give herself time after giving birth.
“Christian is so in shape and he’s just so annoyingly perfect in every single way. Even he says, ‘You have to give yourself a year’,” she said.
Culpo also became emotional while discussing her upcoming C-section in Los Angeles, as McCaffrey’s NFL commitments mean he will have to leave on the day their baby is born.
“Christian is leaving the day I give birth. I’m going for the C-section and then he has to leave that same day. It’s the football season. He is playing in San Francisco and I’m giving birth in Los Angeles,” she said.
