The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Manifesto Committee on Thursday said it would include only those suggestions in the party’s manifesto that could be implemented and reiterated its stand that the manifesto should be treated as a legal document.
Committee Member Secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the panel had sought suggestions from the party’s Scheduled Caste, Backward Caste and Bazigar Front wings under the chairmanship of committee chairman Balwinder Singh Bhundar.
Cheema said representatives of the various wings met the committee separately, submitted their suggestions in writing and discussed the issues in detail.
Senior leaders, including BC Wing president Hira Singh Gabhriya and Bazigar Front chairman Davinder Singh Dayal, also participated in the meetings and shared their suggestions. Former legislators and district presidents were also present, he said.
Cheema said the Manifesto Committee would next seek feedback from the party’s women, youth, trader, NRI and employees fronts as well as farmers.
“We are also committed to visiting various parts of the State so that the sentiments of the common man can also be recorded,” he said.
Cheema said the SAD had undertaken the detailed exercise because, according to the party, Punjabis felt that both the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had failed to fulfil promises made in their respective manifestos.
He said the SAD was committed to implementing every clause of its manifesto and that the committee was therefore examining each suggestion along with its financial implications before including it.
